What a driveway needs that a patio does not
Driveways take vehicle load, which means the joints matter more than anywhere else. Loose, washing-out sand lets pavers rock, and rocking pavers chip edges and open the joints wider. That is why the re-sand step is non-negotiable on my driveway work: old joints washed out, SEK ASTM-C144 sand back in, compacted, then locked with a joint-stabilizing seal.
Driveways are also where the color-enhanced finish earns its keep. Trident Cat 5 deepens the paver color to that rich just-rained look and stabilizes the joints in the same application, which is why it is my usual driveway recommendation. Trident master certified me to apply their sealers, and they've had me teach sealing to their other customers. If you prefer the dry natural color, Trident Cyclone keeps it matte and quiet. Either way the tire-shine marks, oil spotting, and mildew get dealt with in the wash stage first.

Driveway sealing, step by step
- 1
Wash
Full surface clean including oil and tire mark treatment, and the old sand pressure washed out of the joints.
- 2
Dry
Real drying time. Sealing damp pavers is how driveways turn white. I schedule around Florida weather, not around a rushed calendar.
- 3
Re-sand
SEK ASTM-C144 joint sand, compacted into the clean joints. Pearl or tan to suit the pavers.
- 4
Seal
Trident Cat 5 (color-enhanced, joint-stabilizing) or Cyclone (natural matte), applied at correct coverage with cure time respected before cars come back.
Straight answers
The questions I actually get, answered the way I answer them on the phone.
How long before I can park on it?
Foot traffic returns first, vehicles after the sealer has properly cured. I give you the exact windows for your job and the product used, and it is worth every hour of the wait.
Do you seal asphalt driveways?
No. Sealcoating asphalt is a different trade with different materials. I seal brick paver and natural stone surfaces, and I would rather tell you that plainly than be one more truck doing everything badly.
Will sealing stop weeds and ants in the joints?
It dramatically reduces both. Stabilized, sealed joints leave no loose sand for weeds to seed into or ants to excavate. It is one of the most noticeable everyday differences after a proper job.
